Jim Souza, defense attorney, Love INC volunteer/ Resource Navigator and Sacred Heart Tampa Church member, asked Love INC back in early 2018: “What is your greatest need? Teach me to serve.” In August of that same year, Tampa Housing Authority referred "James S," a 76 year old veteran, to Love INC for rent assistance. James had paid rent via money order for years, but his two most recent payments had been misdirected, stolen and cashed. Despite attempts to explain and remedy his unpaid rents, his landlord demanded that Jim pay two months past-due rent or face eviction.

Jim Souza engaged in relationship with James and successfully mediated a resolution. Jim continues to tirelessly advocate for our neighbors in need and create intentional relationships that help rescue, redeem and restore our guests' self-worth and self-esteem. He's up to at least 12 Love INC families now, and counting...

"Teach your children well" – Crosby, Stills & Nash. "Feed my sheep." – John 21: 15-17.

For over fifteen years, every Sunday morning, Hyde Park United Methodist Church Open Arms Ministry provides a nourishing hot breakfast to over 200 in need, including low-income individuals and those struggling with homelessness. After breakfast, guests and volunteers are welcome to worship with the congregation. Guests are ‘loved on’; a brief, two-hour respite from the street, a rare opportunity to sit, exhale and catch up with friends and read the Sunday newspaper at each table.

“When they had eaten, Jesus said to Simon Peter, 'Simon son of John, do you love me more than these others do?' He answered, 'Yes, Lord, you know I love you.' Jesus said to him, 'Feed my lambs. A second time he said to him, 'Simon son of John, do you love me?' He replied, 'Yes, Lord, you know I love you.' Jesus said to him, 'Look after my sheep. Then he said to him a third time, 'Simon son of John, do you love me?' Peter was hurt that he asked him a third time, 'Do you love me?' and said, 'Lord, you know everything; you know I love you.' Jesus said to him, 'Feed my sheep.' – John 21: 15-17.

Our incredible volunteers in Portico Workforce Housing Solutions (PWHS) recently completed a successful day of service at our housing for homeless men located on E Yukon Avenue. A team of workers cleared debris, raked leaves, painted a fence and even swept the roof! We are continuously improving our homes and the quality of our service in transforming and transitioning employed homeless men from the streets to permanent housing— "Living lives as God intended, from chaos to shalom!" A great time was had by all, and a special shout out to our friends at Crossover Church who provided additional volunteers through their "Love Our City" initiative. Love INC (In the Name of Christ) of Metro Tampa partners with local churches to enhance their mission and outreach. What a spectacular day of service! Would you like to get involved? Celebrating an amazing outcome for “Joe,” a guest of Portico Workforce Housing Solutions, our housing program for motived, working, homeless men. Moving from the streets, then to six months in our transitional program, Joe has now successfully completed his case plan and “graduated” into permanent housing offered by our friends and ministry partners at Gracepoint Wellness. The affordable housing offered at The Graham at Gracepoint (www.grahamgracepoint.com), is truly an amazing solution and answer to prayers for our guests in PWHS who are turning their lives around.
