Love Story Update - homeless and alone in Tampa, Yong was referred by First Baptist Tampa after a call from her daughter on the west coast. Love INC and Gracepoint Wellness were able to work with Yong and get her into a safe, clean apartment. Just the other day Love INC volunteers delivered some much needed household items to continue to support Yong in her movement from "chaos to shalom; a life lived as God intended". This is what the mobilized church looks like! If you would like to get involved, visit www.loveinctampa.org/volunteer. ... See MoreSee Less

By design, Love INC (In the Name of Christ) of Metro Tampa is intentionally relational. This means we foster mutuality; an even exchange in which both partners grow in relationship.
Imagine the possibilities when you treat someone with respect and dignity, invest relationally with mutuality, and, over time, you discover each other’s wealth of unknown skills and talents! Want to learn more? Visit: www.loveinctampa.org/?p=4289 and read Mike's latest blog post.

Love INC of Metro Tampa

Love INC of Metro Tampa helping with breakfast outside today for Open Arms Sunday at partner church Hyde Park United Methodist Church. It was humid and a little warm, but guests were fed, loved on and treated with dignity. We often meet people here who want to transform their lives. It is a great place to begin the first steps toward walking in relationship. Love stories are happening every day at Love INC:

Amanda, a desperate daughter based in California, contacted First Baptist Church, seeking guidance on how to help her 50-year old mother, Yong, who was homeless, isolated and losing hope in Tampa. First Baptist referred Amanda to Love INC of Metro Tampa.

Love INC Help Center volunteers connected with Yong, who said: “Please help connect me with the church resources, community resources, social service agencies, and any government support available. I am homeless and struggle to afford food. I do have a part-time job and I'm working toward finding a full-time position. I have no place to stay tonight. I am a hard worker and a mom to 3 adult children. I am on my own in Tampa.”

Korean-born Yong had experienced the freefall from stability to being housing insecure. She lived the chaos of homelessness, and alternated between motel stays and sleeping in rented cars or at rest stops.

Love INC and our church partners took action to help Yong stabilize herself, connecting her to Gracepoint Wellness for affordable housing options, a 31-day bus pass for transportation and above all, lots of prayer and encouragement.

Yong’s daughter Amanda shared her gratitude, “Thank you so much for all of your prayers and kindness and help so far! I feel so blessed and I'm sure my mom does too. My mom's spirit has lifted so much already and she is also so grateful. Thank you for helping mom acquire a bus pass so that she can commute to and from work! Thank you so much again, Amanda.”

Last Saturday, Yong moved into her own apartment in Gracepoint's Graham building. Once settled, Yong will continue in relationship with Love INC's Jamie as a Resource Navigator, who will serve as a friend and mentor, and connect her to a Korean Baptist Church (Yong’s request) in her new neighborhood.

Love INC Board Member, Susan Morgan of Gracepoint Wellness, said, “We’re all in this life together, to support and love each other. And with God there’s no limit, he hears even the most silent prayers in our hearts. Thank you, Amanda, for being such a good daughter.”

This is what the mobilized church looks like.

Love INC volunteers and guests of Portico Workforce Housing Solutions often pick up, deliver and serve food for our neighbors in need in support of one of our partner churches. But we don't stop there. We ask ourselves: "If we are not asking our guests what they need beyond food and clothing, how are we helping them? Can we turn our ideas about service upside down? Given what we know today, will we continue to serve only in the manner we have in the past? Can we keep being only transactional? Will we help in ways that keep people captive; or rescue, redeem and restore them?" After reading this, will anything change for you? If you want to explore how to serve in ways that transform, beyond food and clothing, find out more at www.loveinctampa.org ... See MoreSee Less
